This work is an homage to modernity. Or an accusation, if you like. I’ve taken one of Vermeer’s most famous painting (1632-1675) and updated it. Keeping the same layout, I have changed the XVI-century-lacemaker into her modern version, a chinese girl with blue highlights and big earrings. Far, for once, from the overcrowded factory where she usually works.
This work is actually the second version of my original idea. The first one, in which the lass’s highlights are red, is currently on display in a private collection in New York.
